NCF2008 -  Network Carrier Forum 2008

The "Network Carrier Forum" offers in Workshop atmosphere the chance to discuss the challenges which mobile network operators have to face within the next years. Different Standards and Strategies will be compared and discussed as well as mayor opportunities to optimise existing networks.

HSPA+: "Turbo Booster for successful UMTS "

UMTS offers 3G capabilities - but it does neither offfer DSL equivalent capabilities nor capacities according to the slogan "Mobile IP for everyone". Furthermore it is attacked by Mobile WiMAX, which offers higher capabilities and wide range distribution in new laptop series based on Intel standard. Is HSPA+ really the answer on the challenges UMTS is facing now?

Items covered

  • Objectives, Milestones & Status of HSPA+
  • HSPA+ Network options
  • Resource Allocation in HSPA+
  • HSPA+ Air Interface solution
  • HSPA+ Capabilities & Limits

LTE "Dominating the next decade's mobile market?"

3GPP specifies LTE as ultimate answer to the next decade challenges, paving the path towards 4G. Does LTE really provide the high-performance technology, which enables it to dominate mobile communication in the next decade?

Items covered

  • Objectives of LTE
  • LTE Milesontes, Current Status & LTE-Advanced
  • The LTE & EPS Network
  • Fast & Efficient Resource Allocation in LTE
  • LTE Transmission & Capabilities

WiMAX: "Flexible & efficient - The new choice?"

IEEE's WiMAX is said to solve many problems of today's data transmission, e.g. higher data rates, more capacity, largest cells and best quality. But what are the real capabilities of WiMAX? Do we expect WiMAX to be the 4G standard which shakes the market dominance of 3GPP or not?

Items covered

  • WiMAX Applications and Target Use Groups
  • Types of WiMAX (Fixed/ Mobile/ 802.16m Gigabit WiMAX)
  • Basic Network Structure and Elements
  • Overview of WiMAX Transmission & Capabilities

"Battlefield Mobile Technologies: The Race towards 4G!"

Currently many standards are competing in the race towards 4G. HSPA+, LTE and WiMAX are leading the discussion. Let's compare their real capabilities, limits, benefits and disadvantages. Who will dominate the next decade's of the mobile market? Take a look at the next years up to 2020.

Items covered

  • Mobile Technologies 2008 - 2020
  • Key Parameter of the Air Interface Solutions
  • Spectral Efficiency
  • Capacity & Coverage
  • Network Solutions
  • Final Comparison & Conclusions

Network Performance and Optimisation: How reliable are performance counters?

Coverage and Capacity improvements safe costs and investments in network infrastructure (CAPEX/ OPEX). But how reliable are certain (KPI) parameters of vendor/ 3GPP to improve network performance in life networks?

KPI analysis in 3G
Customer expects KPI analyses assets of 10% more capacity and more performance efficiency of hardware equipment due to less needed RAN equipment. Will there be a potential reduction of Note-B implementation due to better capacity in coverage in the future?

Items covered

  • Interpretation of measurements and their statistics
  • Vendor independent KPI performance
  • Co site 3G/ 2G technology and inter RAT performance
  • Benchmark of parameter setting

Challenging business opportunities for network optimisation
Network optimisation contains the chance to increase quality in the network. Therefore, new investments in hardware or high costs by drive tests should be reduced. Does the challenge for a better performance based on end-to-end quality requirements also include a big impact on the radio access networks?

Items covered

  • Challenge/ risk of network performance
  • Successors and value drives of network optimisation
  • Benchmark of most important indicators
